Trading Funds
Arising from one of the OFT recommendations and linked also to the Power of Information Review, HM Treasury and Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) commissioned an independent review of how government trading funds provide and charge for public sector information. Economists at Cambridge University undertook this review. The Models of Public Sector Information Provision via Trading Funds Report was published on 12 March 2008 alongside the Budget.
Trading funds were highlighted in Paragraphs 3.49 and 5.14 of the Budget report. The Government will closely examine the public sector information that trading funds hold to define what information is needed for its public task and to ensure it is available fairly and competitively. The government will also analyse the business strategies of trading funds to ensure their assets are delivered effectively.
