The Secretary of State, in accordance with the requirements of section 25 and 26 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998[1] hereby makes the following amendment to the regulations: Citation and commencement 1. These regulations may be cited as the Police Service of Northern Ireland (Appeals) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 and shall come into operation on 4th November 2003. 2. The Royal Ulster Constabulary (Appeals) Regulations 2000[2] shall be amended as follows: In regulation 8(1)(a) of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (Appeals) Regulations 2000, delete the words "one" to the end and substitute the following wording: "one shall be a person chosen from a list of persons who are either (a) members of the Bar of Northern Ireland of at least seven years' standing; or (b) solicitors of the Supreme Court of at least seven years' standing and have been nominated by the Lord Chief Justice for the purposes of this regulation". 3. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (Conduct) Regulations 2003[3] shall be amended as follows: In the Schedule to the Regulations under Article 9, Fitness for Duty, paragraph 9.2, between the words "officers" and "shall" insert the words "on duty".
